Nail care after your service
Aftercare for your cuticles and nails are important for a fresh and lasting manicure. Please book in your gel / BIAB overlay / infill within 2-3 weeks of your initial treatment. It's very important to maintain your gel manicure every 3 weeks as to ensure the health of your natural nail and the integrity of your gel or overlay. This allows a check on how the products are working for you and if any adjustments should be made. After this time, your overlay can become unstable and lead to lifting, bending and stress. Please come back for professional removal if required, this will ensure the best condition for your natural nail.
Aftercare Tips
The most important thing you can do is wear gloves! Cleaning products and water are likely to damage the free edge, cause lifting, chipping and potential discolouration. Water can also get trapped between the overlay and natural nail leading to various issues. Cleaning, dishwashing and gardening without gloves should be avoided. Remember to apply hand cream and /or cuticle oil generously after hand washing.
The second most important part of your aftercare is cuticle oil! Finding a routine to use it 1-2 times a day is ideal. It should have the same important as your regular daily beauty routine. Nails that aren't hydrated can become dry and brittle which can lead to breaking/lifting or chipping. Cuticle oil will keep your nails hydrated and flexible, and your cuticles healthy and nourished. Apply the cuticle oil over the whole nail, into the sidewalls, under the free edge and massage into cuticles.
- Don't use your nails as tools!
- Avoid soaking your mani/pedi in hot water, using steam rooms or saunas for the first 24-48 hours.
- Take care handling sunscreen, insect repellant and certain cooking spices (which may cause discolouration).
- Make sure the length of your nails suit your lifestyle, it can take some getting used to if you're new to extensions, and would recommend you extend the length slowly in stages, With longer nails, its important to avoid heavy handed tasks, sports and activities that would risk damage.
